ILO SCORE Training Impact: Case Study Kruger National Park, South Africa
This short film highlights the results achieved through ILO SCORE Training in four tourist camps in Kruger National Park. It shows the positive changes achieved in the participating camps, and hints at the growth, efficiency and job quality gains that could be experienced by the South African tourism industry if this type of upgrading programme was made more widely available.
Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) is a practical training and in-factory consulting programme that improves productivity and working conditions in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). SCORE Training demonstrates best international practice in the manufacturing and service sectors and helps SMEs to participate in global supply chains.
SCORE Training focuses on developing cooperative working relations resulting in shared benefits. The five SCORE Training modules cover Workplace Cooperation, Quality Management, Efficient Resource Management, Human Resource Management, and Occupational Safety and Health. Each module includes a two-day classroom training for managers and workers, followed by on-site consultations with industry experts that help to put the training into action in the workplace.
SANParks, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and national social partners collaborated to bring SCORE Training to 17 Rest and Bush Camps in Kruger National Park. The four camps featuring in this film are Olifants Rest Camp, Skukuza Rest Camp, Talamati Bush Camp and Satara Rest Camp.
